What is Hinduism? Hindu’s believe in one Supreme Reality (Brahman) manifested in or as many gods and goddesses. There are around 330 million forms of God, the main are Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, Ganesh, Krishna, Lakshmi, Durga, Dasavatara and just about every important guru born in India. Hindu’s believe God almighty resides in all of us, and in all beings, hence they practice ahisma (non-violence, non-killing; trademark of Gandhi).
Modes of practice include Yoga, meditation (normally on breath), worship (puja), devotion to a god or goddess, pilgrimage to holy cities, and to live according to one’s purpose in life (karma and fate). That’s a summary of what is Hinduism!

A few quotes explain the essence of what is Hinduism
- “So it is that bird and man, Sun and moon Are born and die in Brahma the Sacred – where all things become one”
- “All that we are is the result of what we have thought. The mind is everything. What we think we become.”
- “Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life – think of it, dream of it, live on that idea. Let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body, be full of that idea, and just leave every other idea alone. This is the way to success, that is way great spiritual giants are produced.”
- “Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without.”
- “You will not be punished for your anger, you will be punished by your anger.”
- “You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.”
- The whole secret of existence is to have no fear. Never fear what will become of you, depend on no one. Only the moment you reject all help are you freed.
- There is some self-interest behind every friendship. There is no friendship without self-interests. This is a bitter truth.
